What is Covered?

The following seven lessons are taught online in audio/video format:

  • Puppy House Training / Potty Training
  • Dog Obedience Training
  • Crate Training
  • Walking Politely on a Leash: The Informal Heel
  • The Recall
  • Good Puppy & Dog Manners
  • Special Dog Tricks

The lesson on puppy house training offers tips for both toy breeds and larger breeds.

My Favorite Parts

The sections are fun and waste no time in getting to the point. They are clearly narrated with well-illustrated slides that make it easy to understand the dos and don’ts of dog training. Being able to hear voice tones and see the correct stances for both dog and owner is a definite advantage of using this audio/video format. This part of the online dog training course is superior to an ebook.

Although this course is not as comprehensive as some of the dog training ebooks in areas such as dog behavior and specific dog breed information, it is full of informative and well-presented dog obedience and house training instructions for dog owners.

Paper training is explored by Dove in an interesting and logical way. Dove is of the opinion that paper training is confusing for dogs and should not be used. Training puppies to always “go potty” outside is explained in a highly informrative and easy to follow way.

Free Bonuses

When you order Dove Cresswell’s course you will also receive the following bonuses and will have the opportunity to e-mail Dove with your individual dog behavior problem:

  • Teach your dog to fetch
  • Train your dog to play soccer
  • Train your dog to play hide ‘n seek
  • Information on dog sports
  • Choosing the right toys for your dog
  • Earning your dog’s respect
  • Choosing the right dog food and treats

My Conclusions

Initially, I was somewhat taken aback that only 7 lessons were offered in this first rate course; however, my opinion quickly changed once I actually listened to the course and discovered the extensive amount of information covered in each lesson. I found this multimedia online dog training program most enjoyable; so much so that I wished it would have lasted longer. The easily understood lessons allow you replacate the techniques and successfully train your dog like a pro.

The only downside with this course is that it’s only available online so you need an internet connection to be able to view it.  It is for this reason that I have given it a 4 ½  star rating. If the course was also offered as an e-book, I would have gladly given it 5 stars.

This course would be ideal for all dog owners wanting a top notch dog training guide, however, I feel that it is particularly appealing to people who find ebooks boring.  Viewing a sample lesson before you buy the course lets you know what you can expect.

The quality of Dove Cresswell’s course is first rate and I strongly recommend it to all dog owners: Dove Cresswell’s Puppy & Dog Training Online.

Stop Your Dog’s Boredom In Its Tracks

Ever get home only to find your dog had destroyed some of your prized possessions, maybe chewed up a favorite item of clothing?  This may well be a scenario that you have faced or wish to avoid in the future.  One possible reason for this kind of behavior is separation anxiety, especially when a dog has been left alone for a long period.  However, it may be that the reason is simply that your dog is bored.

Dog are social animals just like we are and need company and stimulation.  Almost any dog will get bored if left all alone for many hours.  Apart from chewing and digging, they may seek attention by constantly barking, licking themselves, pacing and chasing their tails.

Four hours is the maximum time that any dog should be left alone for.  Maybe your lifestyle or job forces you to leave your dog alone for lengthy periods of time. In that case, here are a few tips:

•    One option is to hire someone to walk your dog.  If you don’t want or can’t afford to hire a professional dog walker, you could ask a friend, relative or neighbour to do it.  Walks allow your dog to keep his brain stimulated with all the interesting sights, smells and sounds.  The exercise is great for him too

•    Just as being an only child can be lonely, so can being an only puppy or dog.  It may be worth thinking about having another dog as a companion.

•    If your dog likes to dig, you could give him a specific place in your garden. It gives him something to do to relieve his boredom.  You could create a sandpit where he can dig as much as he wants without ruining your flowerbeds.  At the start it is crucial to make him want to use the pit by building up a positive association with it. You can tempt him into it with treats and have some treats in the pit for him to find.

•    You should have a variety of toys and chews for your dog and rotate them to keep up his interest. Dispensing toys have a great interest for dogs when they are stuffed with treats as you can imagine. I would recommend that you try them. Also, I recommend you dog-proof your house as much as possible so that anything chewable is out of reach!I.

•    Hiding treats around the house is one way that you can stimulate your dog’s interest.  The treats should be placed to provide a bit of a challenge to your dog, but reasonably easy to access.  In old socks, under an upside down bowl – these are examples of hiding places.

I hope you find these recommendations helpful in relieving your dog’s boredom.  Obviously when you are with your dog, make sure that you take him out for regular walks and play games with him.  It is essential that you puppy dog is given the correct training.

Best Bird Cage Designs

What are the best bird cages? With numerous birds in the market, one of the cages that have shown that it is superior for both parrots and other large birds are the parrot cage designs. These have been made out of cast iron or some other metal to ensure that they are durable and also appealing to those that have to see the cage itself to see the bird.

Many of the newest designs are made out of aluminum or titanium. Since they are both durable and lightweight, they offer the best of both worlds in parrot cage variants. Many of these are a bit of an investment, but many people see it as a good investment in the long run.

Some of the newer layouts have been made with the cleanup factor in mind. This means that there is less of a chance in having to vacuum around the cage if the parrot is upset and also that the cleaning time with the parrot cage is greatly minimized. These newer styles have been made to make the owner happier with the parrot and also in the cage itself.

In the past the cage was a nightmare to clean and was something that was a burden to move. You had to be constantly concerned with damaging it during the cleaning process. These old parrot cages where huge and usually heavy and were a danger to anyone that moved them.

Many recent models are easy to take apart and some are even becoming modular with the parts. This means that the cage can be disassembled and still have a portion that can be fashioned to contain the bird while the cage is being moved. The light weight material also means that the cages weigh much less than they used to. You no longer need a whole herd of people to move your bird cage from one room to another.

One thing that you really do need to keep in mind when you’re out picking out a cage is that you’ve got to find one that looks good in your home. You’re probably not going to want to choose a gold parrot cage if you’ve got silver on all your tables. Choose one that blends into the décor so the thing your guests are noticing is the pretty bird inside the cage, and not the parrot cage itself.

Granted any pet should be viewed as an investment, but they really do quickly become a part of the family. This is especially true of a parrot who will chatter their way right into your heart.

Would You Rather Go For A Pet Dwarf Hamster?

Are you thinking of owning a pet to embrace and hold and dutch and play with? If you do, then, you might be looking for a small pet. A small pet that you hold easily in your hand, you can train easily and tame easily, you want a rodent pet but you don’t want mice, and you don’t want a very bad odor of a mouse either, and you don’t want to have huge cages in your house. For one, they don’t want to get infuriated by things like pet litter, chewed off sofa and slippers, dirty corners, corners with pee and kid’s head with dog poop. Dwarf hampsters are way too cute to make nasty things like this. And what about the training and all that stuff? Can you train a hamster to do some very unlikely things like stand, go fetch that stick or shoot a ball in the basket or stuff like that? Well, if you can train cow to jump on a hurdle, if you can train a chicken to dance, if you can teach a dog to go bite the mailman and if you can teach a cat to play dead, you can also teach a dwarf hamster to do some of these things and the only way to do this conveniently is to go and find a dwarf hampster care and training guide.

But where in the Milky Way can you find one? Wouldn’t it be easy to hire a hamster trainer? What? Are you really serious? Do you think you can find a trainer that can train [hampsters]hamsters? If you want to get something done especially training hamsters and learning how to take care of them, you have to do it your own way. Furthermore, even though you can find someone to do the training, it might be too costly and could eat up much of your time.

Adopting A Pet Through Rescue Groups

Rescue groups or organizations are volunteer groups dedicated to pet adoption. These groups or organizations take the unwanted, abandoned, abused and stray animals and attempt to locate life long homes for these animals. Rescue groups may also take the animals themselves and care for them, providing them training, medical care and taking care of the behavioural problems until they get a suitable home for them.

Pet adoption from rescue groups is a great way of providing a loving home for pets that may not have any owners or any loving and caring experience. Animals which are rescued just need a little bit more of care and a stable environment.

Rescue animals, most of the time, have spent time in a family environment.  So some of the rescue animals have already gone some obedience training and already housebroken. Although there is still some rescue animals, due to owner’s neglect haven’t gone any training at all. Rescue groups make sure that animals have been housebroken or trained before being put up for adoption.

Also, rescue organizations are including temperament testing in their processes before accepting a pet into their programs. Foster families or soon-to-be-parents of the rescued animals have the opportunity to continue in observing the behaviour of animals before being available for adoption. With this process, the soon-to-be-pet parents can make an informed decision if they will be able to cope with the behaviour and attitude of the rescue animals.

In terms of medical care, rescue animals if already old enough, may have already been neutered and received vaccinations. Rescue pets have already undergone physical examination. If there are some health issues, they have been treated while in foster care. Health problems are being taken care of prior to adoption.

The bond between rescue animals and their pet owners are very strong. It is commonly noticed and shared that rescue animals are eager to please their new owners. They are usually eager to be part of a loving family where they know they are safe and secure.

Animals that have experienced abuse and neglect when shown or treated with kindness become devoted, loving and loyal companions. Skittish and timid animals become more confident eventually becoming more affectionate and outgoing. There are experiences from rescued puppies to wanting to be in their new owner’s lap and following them at all times.

Rescue organizations are very keen of placing their animals in suitable homes that will be their life long or “forever” home. Pet parents looking to adopt pets go through a procedure of selection which will ensure that the pet is fit for the type of family that is willing to adopt it. If ever the family encounters a problem that cannot be given a solution, most rescue groups have a return clause written in their adoption contract.

But generally, adult pets that you can get from the rescue groups are better adapting to their new family especially kids. Housebroken and adult pets are more mellow and more patient with children

Adopting a pet is a good value that can be though to our children. Especially since everything can be bought, adopting provides a great opportunity to teach our children compassion, caring , second chances and responsibility.

If pet parents are interested getting purebred dogs, there are purebred rescue groups. Rescue organizations are run by voluntarily organizations that have sufficient knowledge of a specific breed. Adopting fees vary depending on the veterinary and medical costs that have been spent while they are in foster care. Follow-up counselling is also available for post adoption problems.

Rescue groups and organizations provide the opportunity for animals to be relocated in much secure and safe homes. Pet adoption is a great and humane thing to do.

How to get a Cat make up

Cats are elegant and beautiful creatures, often impelling the on lookers to admire it’s mysterious beauty. And it’s always been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Therefore, why not put on cat make up and a cat costume for your next costume party?

Cat Make Up Kits

There are several cat make up kits on the market. Some emphasize the sexuality of a hot blooded female cat, others focus more on the goofiness of the kitten, still others are slightly forbidding, reminding us that the cat is only partially domesticated whatever we may think. Many cat make up kits will transform you into a feline who looks like an extra for a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats

The kits vary greatly in price, but they all come with basic cat make up and instructions for applying it.

Cat costumes are also readily available both online and in costume stores. Once more you will come across a variety of accessories to pick up from including Hat, Comic looking cat and skimpy dresses that would give a Hollywood actress a run for her money.

But I Want to Do My Own Cat Make Up!

You can’t go too far wrong with a cat make up kit, but there’s always the chance that you’ll show up for your Halloween event looking just like someone else. If you intend to differentiate yourself from the crowd, do you own make up.

You will require Paint (preferably grease paint), false eyelashes or mascara, lipstick and lip liner and a white highlighter. If you’re really into creating the perfect costume, consider purchasing a latex nose, some spirit gum, and a bristly black paint brush to provide whiskers.

There are several online sites that can coach you on the basics of applying cat make up. Study them to get ideas. Then, on a piece of drawing paper, make a rough sketch of your ideal cat face. Think about the image you want to project. Is your inner cat warm and cuddly, or aloof and mysterious? Are you a kitten or a crone?

When you’re ready to start applying your cat make up, do so carefully. If you make a mistake with grease paint, it’s hard to wash off. You might want to enlist a friend to help you get your make up just right.

After you finally complete the work, it is finally time for the party. Just remember to conduct yourself with the appropriate amount of feline pride. For a matter of fact, centuries ago, your ancestors too were regarded and revered as gods.

Cat Heartworm -And How You Should Treat It

As most pet owners already know, heartworm treatment for cats and dogs isn’t the same. You should never, under any condition, give your feline the heartworm treatment which is designed for dogs and the reverse is also true.  Even though you may own both dogs and cats, you should always give them medicine that is designed for their species.

No matter how you look at it, heartworm treatment isn’t easy.  Your goal is to get rid of the heartworms, although there are several factors that you’ll need to consider. The first thing to do is take your cat to the vet, as he will be able to run tests to determine just how many heartworms your pet has.  He can also find out how the worms are affecting your cat and if your cat can deal with any side effects that the treatment medicine may impose.

The worms will feast on the important areas of your feline’s heart, so heartworms are too serious condition to be ignored.  Treatment can be serious as well, especially if something goes wrong.  Veterinarians are trained to deal with heartworms though, in both cats and dogs.  Even though you may be able to buy treatment medicine at your local department store, you should always consult with your vet before you give anything to your pet.

Treating your cat for heartworms may indeed be no treatment at all, as cats are extremely difficult to treat.  The dying worms have side effects as well, often times causing more than 1/3 of the treated cats to end up with serious problems.  Dying worms can become lodged in the arteries of the heart, which are already inflamed due to the worms being there.  When a lodged worm starts to decompose, it can lead to very serious problems.  Pets that have a serious infestation with heartworms may need to spend some time at the hospital, to ensure that they are properly treated.

Some cats may not be able to take a certain type of heartworm treatment medicine.Considering on the affects and side affects of a particular medicine upon cats, few breeds may not capable of tolarating a particular medicine.  To determine the best treatment options for your cat, your vet will need to run several tests.  Once the tests have concluded, your vet will be able to tell you the best options available for treatment.

In all diseases, prevention is far better solution and safer than its treatment.  Be sure to talk to your vet and find out what heartworm prevention medication is the best to use.Your vet can recommend you the requirements, and appropriate use.  This way, you can prevent your pet from getting heartworms – and the serious side effects and life threatening issues that go along with them.

Cats 101

Cats often compete with Dogs for their position as the favorite pet animal to humans; they are regarded as useful, sweet creatures that delight their owners. Cats are small domesticated animals that have gained popularity for their intelligence and their ability to follow simple commands once trained, and their capacity to catch and destroy vermin, more specifically rats. You can find multiple cat varieties with contrasting color, fur type and of course size originating out of natural interbreeding or human intervened breeding.

The African Wild Cat is believed to be the closes pre-domesticated of cats and present day cats still carry innately wild characteristics like being carnivorous and instinctive in hunting, known to hunt over a thousand species for food. Association of human beings and cats is relatively older, documented reference comes in Egyptian, Chinese and Viking literature, these cultures often placed cats at a higher status over other domestic and wild animals.
Cat-Aloguing Cats
Tom and Queen are common names for common male and female of the cat species, at times breeds like pedigreed, snow fur or purebred are called as Dams for male and Sirens for female. Purebred and pedigreed cats both have recorded ancestries; purebred, however, have a long-lineage of only one cat variety or breed, while pedigreed cats may have ancestors of different, mostly new breeds. Breeding different cat varieties are subject to strict rules of cat registries and associations that study, regulate and assess the compatibility of varieties to come up with better offspring, both in terms of health and appearance.
Domestic longhairs, shorthairs, random-bred and mongrels are some terms that refer to cats with mixed ancestry that vary from one country to the next. Most of the cat population the world over is comprised of random-bred felines, with purebreds only totaling to less than ten percent of the feline population. Domestic cats, in general, have been classified by Carolus Linnaeus as Felis catus back in the 17th century as the domestic sub-species of the wild cat family.
Cats commonly weigh anywhere between two to seven kilograms with some breeds such as the Maine Coon weighing over ten kilograms. As a result of overeating, some of the bigger cat varieties can weigh more than twenty kilograms but are considered by veterinarians as unhealthy and more susceptible to illnesses, ailments and diseases. Further, there are also adult smaller cats that weigh less than two kilograms but are not classified as miniature varieties but are only considered as smaller, underweight cats and are considered underweight or unhealthy.
