Black Koi: Facts About Your Marvelous Pet

The Koi come in a wide variety of patterns and colors. The black Koi are distinguished from the other varieties with their own coloring, and not much else. These species can live about 25 to 35 years, the oldest of which have lived up to 200 years! They are seen regularly in outdoor ponds throughout the globe.

The male Koi are recognized and distinguished by their concave anal section, as well as those breeding spots being displayed on their head. They have the ability to lay up to 1,000 eggs. The babies (called as the fry) will start to emerge within 4 to 7 days, depending on the temperature condition of the water. It’s an amazing fact that their color will emerge when they’re about 3 to 12 weeks old. When they were first bred in Japan from carp mutations, they only had two colors. More colors came in with more breeding through the years, resulting in a variety of beautiful colors and patterns.

These species can reach up to about a length of 36 inches, that's why they should be kept in large ponds. The species known as the Magoi is considered as one of the first black mutations which can reach to great sizes in length. Their color is actually deep bronze, which can be seen as black when they are being viewed from above. Due to their unique possibilities in terms of size, the blood of the Magoi is being re-introduced to the other species so as to maximize their potential when it comes to growth.

The Karasu ("karasu" which means "crow" in Japan) is another one of those extremely old species. It is characterized by its black body and black fins. It has an orange or white-colored belly.

It can change its color because of the dietary and environmental effects. The color changes range from duller shades to brighter ones. The Matsukawabake is known for this characteristic; black in color and has areas or white on its body. Depending on the water's temperature or the season, its color can change completely. It can turn completely black or white, and will return to its original pattern once the temperature conditions will change.

The Kumonryu (Japanese for “dragon fish”), which first appeared in the 1980′s, is considered to be as the most popular of the species. It was designated with such a name as it is reminiscent of the bodies of dragons that are depicted by the paintings of the ancient times (some would say that these fish looked as if they were dragons that ascend through the white clouds). This can also change their colors.

Pond owners are being attracted to the Koi's colors and patterns, and surely there's nothing more exciting compared to owning such a magnificent and beautiful fish!

Pay Attention to Several Mistakes in Maintaining Aquarium

Aquarium can be placed in the living room or in your delightful garden. This aquarium can decorate your home or your garden. It can also aid you to decrease your blood pressure and provides a sense of triumph.

Aquarium can boost your blood pressure if you find that the fish remain floating on the surface of the water. Consequently, in order to keep away from this terrible state, you can learn about the most usual mistakes that anyone can make in maintaining aquarium. This article will give you briefly explanation about that.

Don’t Overstock

Most people frequently stuff as many fish as possible in their aquarium. actually, you can not do that dump thing if you don’t want your fish die breathless. In most of the pet stores, the fish may be cramped, but they have solution to maintain their fish alive. So, don’t try to do the same thing at home.

It is since the pet stores usually have double filtration systems for the fish and the fish are frequently to move out when they are sold. So, if you still want to keep your fish alive, then you must not do that thing at home.

The safest rule to follow is giving four gallons in your aquarium to each fish, assuming the fish are only an inch long each (excluding tail fins). The regulation used to be one gallon per inch of fish. That regulation can be found in lots of older aquarium care books, but it has because verified to be untrue. Furthermore, your 20 gallon tank doesn’t hold 20 gallons of water, and there are also plants, gravel, and decorations. As a consequences, you can have at the most five fish in a twenty gallon tank.

Don’t Overfeed

Although there are lots of scientists that claim aquarium fish are stupid, they’re all attain the intelligence enough to beg, and they are really good at it. But you must remind that feeding the fish too much is very bad for their health. A fish that eats too much will be a fish that passes out a lot of waste. This will break your filtration system and also the chemical composition of the aquarium water.

The broad regulation is not to feed more than your fish can eat in about three minutes. If they are bottom feeding fish or shy fish, then you can give it ten or fifteen minutes. This general rule can be learned by doing it. It seems like you’re scarcely feeding your fish at all, but they have tiny stomachs and require only a little bit of food.

Get the Biggest Tank that You Can Afford

Another fault is that people generally think that smaller aquariums are easier to maintain than the larger one. But in fact, smaller tank tends to get dirty very fast and it will need daily maintenance. The bigger aquarium with the appropriate amount of fish will consequences in the less maintenance it will be needed.

The best way to check online criminal records?

Up until fairly recent times it was extremely difficult to carry out investigative checks on people in the US without finding a private detective and it costing a lot of money. Now that we have enormous computer databases, the whole process is a whole lot easier.

It’s now possible, if you know where to look, to run a number of different searches on zero cost government websites to find criminal records saved against US passport holders. The main drawback of this approach is that you need to search on a multitude of unique web sites and online databases to recover the records that you are trying to retrieve. The information is quite often held differently for different states which makes data gathering a arduous process. The good news is that there is a far more simple solution at a much lower cost. A number of large databases have been created by US private businesses that allow you to search though all US criminal records on the same website. This makes it very simple to use and quicker to retrieve the data that you need. For a small yearly fee of $40 you are able to search criminal records for all states in the US. All the records are searchable via a single website which makes the task very simple.

That’s not the only good news. This same small low cost also grants you access to loads of different types of record that are stored on the large number of US government databases. These include: criminal records, marriage and divorce searches, missing persons lists, assault records, court files / proceedings, sex offenders data, birth and death files, personal bankruptcy files, inmate details, most wanted criminal lists, parole records, jail data, DWI records, arrest lists and many more

It’s worth noting that someone does not have to have been locked up to have retrievable criminal records held against him.

One of the best websites we have discovered is http://gov-criminal-records.com  This site gives a very rapid search functionality and the ability to sift through millions of US Government records all in one place.

So how can you use all this data for and how can it be [helpfuluseful] to you? There are numerous reasons why a yearly subscription for this information is worth it’s weight in gold. If you use someone to help in your house, walk your pet, or help taking care of your ofspring, you can now run a search on the person’s name and check if they have been tied up in criminal acts. You could be an employer and might want to run background checks on potential employees. Again a very quick search will retrieve all the records you want to ensure you only hire the appropriate people. If a person is over 18 and has been involved in criminal acts, they will have public records held with them that you will now be able to search for and check.

Yet another potential use for this information is if you have to go on a date and want to run a check on the man you have met up with. It’s far better to work it out now than many years in the future when it might be too late.  Happy checking!

The Dog is Everyone’s Best Friend

Some people are pet people, others aren’t. And there are people who have never experienced having a pet so don’t know they are pet people yet.

Dogs aren’t known as ‘Mans best friend’ for no reason. They can quite simply be the most loyal friend you could ever have. Of course they won’t be able to give you advice or help you move house but they can do a whole lot of other things. From my own point of view my own dogs have given me so much in my life, here are just a few examples:

Companionship

Before my dog came to live with me I would need to find a reason to go for a stroll or for someone to come along. Without fail, my dog comes along with me every time. I have always enjoyed my walks out with my dog.

Motivation

Most people have those days when it’s difficult to motivate yourself. If you have a dog you have to. Every morning, my dog will make his way upstairs at around the same time and nuzzle his head under the covers to greet me. Sound like a terrible nightmare? I just can’t be angry with him. When they are visibly so happy to see you and are always in a good mood, how can you?

Safety Outdoors

Going back to my walks, there are places I enjoy visiting that I wouldn’t have visited on my own now, having my wonderful loyal canine companion with me provides that element of security. Even though he is an exceptionally friendly pet, he will turn into a protector if he senses danger. Although I suspect I would also feel the need to protect him too! That is what friends are for right?

Safety at Home

Today when few people feel 100% safe in their own home, your dog can be excellent deterrant. Even dogs not trained as a guard dog will bark if they hear a noise they aren’t expecting or see a person too close to the house that they don’t know when you are not in the room. Mine does and he wasn’t trained to do it; it’s instinct. As long as the ‘would be robber’ doesn’t catch on that my dog would simply jump at him and except some kind of praise, we’ll be ok!

Entertainment

I have to say I am never bored in my house. You know those days when you are a little restless. Nothing to read, nothing on television, don’t want to do housework. Well, given the slightest hint and you have a four legged buddy only too happy to provide some entertainment to your day. Teach him a new trick, play ball or frisbee or go out for a stroll. Boredom disappears like magic!

And I got all this for the price of an adoption fee from the local dogs home and a bag of dog food every month. I wouldn’t trade my four legged best buddy for anything.

Keep in mind that having a dog is almost like having a child. You need to take good care of him/her. He needs his medical check ups, he needs to be fed a healthy diet and he needs to be given lots of attention and guidance to make sure he grows into a good adult dog. So find a good local vet, a decent pet supplies shop and read some dog books too because there are plenty out there.

Tips to Attract Wild Birds to Your Garden

There are lots of different ways to attract birds to your garden. An easy way is to give them a safe place to eat and the food they enjoy. Garden bird feeders are perfect for providing food for them. When natural foods are scarce during the winter bird feeders can save their lives.

Many different species can be attracted by providing their favorite foods. Finches are attracted to thistle bird feeders that hold the tiny seeds they love. Prevent the seeds from getting moldy by keeping them dry in a tube feeder. Enjoy the sight of the birds feeding from your home by using a window feeder.

You can purchase bird feeders specially designed for woodpeckers, goldfinches and hummingbirds. Put them close to your bird house in a safe place. Damp encourages mold so check daily that the food is dry. Pests such as ants and wasps will be attracted to spilled food so clean it up every day.

Birds benefit most from feeding during the winter but food can be scarce in other seasons too. Help the wild birds by providing food for them all through the year. Fledglings can be affected by shortages of food during the breeding season so put out suitable food for them at this time.

Pans of water or garden bird baths should be provided to give them a safe place to drink, bathe and preen their feathers. Set out water containers at different levels as some species prefer to drink and bathe at ground level, others prefer above ground containers. Containers should only be filled to a few inches and should be placed some way away from the noise around bird feeders. The sounds of running water will attract wild birds. Water drippers are great for attracting birds and they also deter mosquitoes from breeding in the water.

A natual looking area of the garden with wild plants and trees will enhance the sense of security of the birds. An area of the garden can be allowed to grow wild to make them an attractive place.

Train Your Cat to Use a Scratching Post Instead of Your Furniture

As an owner of a cat, one of your main priorities will be to train your cat to prevent it from scratching your furniture. This will not only prevent stress for you, it will enable you to form a better bond with your cat.

There is a reason your cat scratches the furniture and you will need to understand that reason. Your cat doesn't do this because it wants to annoy you, nor does it purposely set out to do this because it dislikes the furniture you have. Cats simply love to scratch. Scratching is a natural cat behavior, and you cannot prevent your cat from doing this. You can train your cat not to scratch your furniture by giving it something else to scratch instead.

Scratching is normal and healthy activity for cats. Scratching allows a cat to stretch and exercise their muscles. Cats paws have scent glands and scratching helps them to leave a scent in order to mark their territory. Cats need to scratch for claw health and keeping them nice and sharp, for when you annoy it. Clearly your cat has reasons to scratch. You need to encourage this behavior in the correct manner instead of preventing it.

When your cat scratches your furniture, don't even think about punishing it. Cats will not respond to punishment and will increase your cats problems. If you try to punish your cat, all you will do is show the cat that you are someone who must be avoided. If you shoo your cat away if you see it scratching your furniture, it will only carry on doing the same thing when you are not around. The one way to prevent a cat from scratching furniture is through the use of effective training methods.

The first thing that you must do when you get a cat is to buy a scratching post. Even better would be to have more than 1 scratching post, as this gives your cat plenty of options. Although a cat can be trained to use a scratching post at any age, the earlier you can start to train your, the better it will be for you, your cat, and especially your furniture.

You should place the scratching posts in your cat's favourite places. Try putting a post near the place your cat sleeps on a regular basis. A good scratch and a good stretch is cat's first port of call after it wakes up. You could say that this is a trait that the rest of us share. Once your cat becomes used to using scratching posts, it becomes a habit, and cats are creatures of habit.

Another good place to put scratching post, is in an area where you and other members of the family sit. Cats do want to spend time with their owners, even though at times it seems that they are not really bothered. If your cat chooses to have a nap on your lap, a nearby scratching post will come in handy.

The only way to train your cat to use a scratching post is to make your cat familiar with it. Try playing with your cat by moving string up and down the post, so your cats claws come in contact with it. You could tie some of your pet's favourite toys onto the post, this will encourage your cat to make contact with the post with its paws. These easy techniques will allow you to train your cat so that it no longer uses your furniture for scratching.

Ensure that the post is pretty stable and of a good length. Cat training is not difficult if you use the right methods, and it is easy to train your cat to stop it from ruining your furniture.

Don’t Make These Common Mistakes Setting Up Your Home Aquarium!

Fish are peaceful and gentle creatures. There’s no need to keep them on a leash or in a cage. You don’t have to train them, register them with the City Hall, or vaccinate them. But that is not just a simple task. Even though you aren’t going to take all those steps, you still have to put effort into maintaining your new pets. Your task will be more focused on maintaining the cleanliness of your home aquariums. The following are several useful suggestions for steering clear of typical errors made regarding home aquariums.

Small aquariums are really nice. However the appearance of the home aquariums does not matter to the fish. Fish need space more than decorations in their aquarium. The size of home aquariums needs to be sufficiently large. A good size for beginners is a 20 gallon aquarium. Tiny aquariums are dangerous and don’t allow your fish specimens room to move about.

Finding the correct location is important for a home aquarium. Set up your fish tank where you can easily monitor and enjoy watching them. You will know the spot you picked is not good if problems arise. It will also help you remember to feed the fish and to maintain the cleanliness of the environment. Aquarium requires a steady and sturdy spot since they are heavy. You should choose a spot that’s easy to maneuver around in terms of keeping it clean. Do not place other furniture with it. All those equipments used for the aquarium should be properly placed for it to funtion for a long time.

Avoid baking your fish by keeping your home aquarium near sunlight. You need to provide shelter from the sun’s direct rays particularly for tropical fish. A lot of light promotes algae proliferation which causes your aquarium to get cloudy. Never put your speakers or other loud audio equipment in close range of the aquarium. Throbbing bass and screeching treble will frighten them.

Overwhelmed with anticipation, you might want to set the fish swimming the same day you bought the tank. Before introducing the fish into your home aquaium you need to let the water cure for a few days. If you do this, you lower the risk of illness for your pet fish.

Its really important to choose fish which go well with each other. May be you were wondering about the reduction of number of fishes with you. There is a good possibility that the bully fish ate the missing fish. Pick out gentle and tranquil fish specimens for your home aquarium. Be sure to request that the pet shop owners specify how big the fish get when they reach adulthood. Take measures to ensure that there is a compatibility with the tank for the fish. Always choose healthy looking fish. If you see damaged scales or fungus on the fish do not buy them.

Home aquariums should never be over crowded. An ecological balance is important to achieve in the home aquarium. The rule is one fish will require a gallon of water. If you wish to have more fish, then you should have larger and bigger aquarium.

Disease Ridden Hedgehogs?

Each year literally hundreds of exotic animals are imported into the USA and Europe. One day an unsuspecting animal could be contentedly hopping around in Asia, Africa or South America and suddenly find itself transferred half way across the world and in some child’s bedroom inside a week. Many of these future pets are not subject to quarantine requirements and often only minimal health checks are carried out before we bring them into our homes. Unfortunately a lot of owners know nothing about the health risks posed by their cuddly new pets.

Zoonotic Diseases

Zoonotic diseases are those that can jump from animals to humans. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA says that zoonotic diseases account for around three-quarters of all emerging infectious diseases today.

Below are only some of the germs and diseases your hedgehog could infect you with.

A CDC study from 2005 lists an alarming number of confirmed and potential zoonotic diseases that pet and wild hedgehogs can carry. The confirmed diseases include Salmonella, Yersina, pseudotubercolosis, Mycobacterium marinum, Herpesvirus including human herpes simplex and Rabies. The potential diseases they can carry include Yersina pestis (also responsible for Bubonic plague) and hemorrhagic fever.

Salmonella

Salmonella is normally contracted from contaminated food. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that 1 in 20 of all infections are passed to people by exotic pets. For example they estimate that nearly eighty thousand Americans contract Salmonella from their pet reptiles every year.

In 1994 African Pygmy Hedgehogs were responsible for passing on a rare form of Salmonella (S. tilene), to a 10 month old girl who became the first ever confirmed case of this serotype in a human in the USA. The girl’s family were hedgehog breeders who kept a herd of about 80 hedgehogs. Of particular importance is that the girl had never had any contact with the hedgehogs herself. She was infected by a family member who had handled the hedgehogs. The same serotype was later diagnosed in many other cases.

Ringworm

Despite its name ringworm or Tinea is not a worm but is actually a fungal skin infection. One source of ringworm is known to be pet and wild hedgehogs. Over the past few months HedgehogsAsPets.com has been covering a story where three people were infected with ringworm by two hoglets bought from the same breeder.

This story even more frightening because the woman concerned somehow managed to get around the UK’s strict quarantine laws and import several African Pygmy Hedgehogs directly into the country from Germany. Usually anti rabies legislation requires hedgehogs to spend six months in a government regulated facility before they can be imported into the country.

In this case the woman claims that the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) allowed her to quarantine the hedgehogs at home although Defra has categorically denied that this would ever be allowed. The breeder later learned that the German breeder’s herd was infected with ringworm, but not before she had spread the disease from the “German” hedgehogs to her breeding pair. The offspring of these latter were sold and went on to infect three people with ringworm.

As well as the ringworm part of the story, this case illustrates what happens when you buy your pets from unreliable and dishonest dealers and breeders. Although the breeder has said she will pay the vet’s fees, after six months the new owners have not received a penny.

Reducing the risk of infection

To reduce the risk of infection simply go to this site and follow the advice they give there: http://www.cdc.gov/healthypets/browse_by_animal.htm.

Buying your pet from a reputable breeder rather than a pet store or pet distributor, should also provide you with more guarantees about where the animal came from.

While the risk of catching some terrible disease from your pet is quite small, owners must be aware that it does exist. Follwing the advice on the CDC site will help you to reduce the risk of infection to a minimum.

There Is No Such Thing As A Bad Dog…

Dogs cannot be bad; it is the handler who is poor. It is frustrating when a dog simply jumps on your clean clothes as you are taking a walk down the road. This can also happen when the dog next door leaves his tell tale marks on your front yard. These dogs are only as irritating as the children who have not learnt any lessons in life; and you call them bad dogs?

What can you say about pets and kids who belong to homes where the adults are not responsible themselves? Ask any smart owner and he would tell you that it is wise to take the help of a dog trainer to learn the handling methods without dampening his natural spirits. To get to know a good trainer approach your vet or pet store; these trainers often hold private lessons with the pet and the owner but it is just as easy to solve your pet behavior problem by attending any online course on pet management or get some ideas and help from a dog training book or from online dog training tips. This training could teach owners how to be in command of their pets.

There is a saying amongst trainers however that it is far easier to train dogs than the people that own them! When you want the dog to be leash trained, make them practice in a small area away from other distractions. Owner and other residents get irritated when these animals bark even if it is a typical occurrence. Remember when they bark, they are trying to communicate, so if you shout or punish on them for this, it will only result in puzzling the poor creature.

So why does a dog bark?
Well, just like a young child or baby, it needs attention, food or something to drink. A Dog barking can be good burglar alarm and training them to stop isn’t always a good idea. Remember not to promote barking when he is a puppy and then get all worked up when he continues to bark even more as he gets bigger. Any trainer can teach you skills on how to get the desired conduct from your puppy using the carrot as opposed to the stick.

How do you make your new puppy stop the undesired behavior?
You need to know how to reward your pet so they get the correct message and repeat the desired behavior or cease the less desirable traits. Remember that you can not coach a dog to adapt to certain behaviors which are not part of his genetic make-up. The best option for getting certain specific behavior is to acquire your pet from a breed which displays those traits.

When does a dog become good?
Well, when you train them with patience, resolve and of course, a great deal of affection.
