Dog Breeding Stand – Shall You Use It?

People have always been experimenting with dog breeding and dog grooming in order to get healthier, stronger and basically in order to get better or more ‘improved’ dogs and dog breeds. Breeding however becomes difficult when the female is not willing to let a male dog mount her for various reasons. If dog owners are very eager to get puppies things like dog breeding stands are used in these types of situations.

Most of you are probably aware of the furious debate that still continues regarding the moral aspects of the dog breeding stand. Critics believe that the use of device is cruel and their attitude is revealed by the fact that they call these devices ‘rape stands’. There are of course those people with conflicting opinions who claim that the dog breeding stand is absolutely moral and defends the use of the device. Deciding whether the use of the device is ethical or not is indeed tough and perhaps its best seen as a tool in the hands of dog owner and the morality depending on the decisions of the owner.

What critics of the dog breeding stand say is that the device is generally used for the breeding of fighting dogs because dogs which have been trained to fight all their lives could tear each other to bits when trying to breed naturally so the female is attached to the dog breeding stand so that the whole process may be completed in a safe manner. The device allows the male to mount her safely as she cannot turn back to bite the male. These critics also argue that this method is used to get puppies early before the female is prepared to breed or before she hasn’t reached the right time in her ‘heat cycle.’

The supporters of the dog breeding stand view it as a necessity when the dogs that are to be bred are just too ferocious making it dangerous to allow breeding the natural way. They also say that when it comes to breeding between dogs that have a significant height difference the dog breeding stand is a good option. This group also points out that the female might lie down if she gets tired while breeding which makes the breeding process complicated. They believe the use of a dog breeding stand is reasonable in such a case.

Options like artificial insemination are open to those dog owners who are not willing to use the breeding stand in the case of an unwilling female and advice should be sought from a breeding expert in such a case.
