I think it can, because size is the only deterrent of making them pets.
When will that happen?
Its called a Bengal cat. Yes you can keep it as a pet but it still might be a bit ferocious so ask your vet if it is safe enough for humans to hang around

It’s not only the size that makes them pets, it’s the instinct.
Look at wild cats. They’re not bigger than a dog, but they’re wild. And can kill you if you get to close.
Look at horses, there’s wild ones. They’re not that different from normal race horses, but still they’re violent.
The day you can have a tiger pet is when they can genetically engineer their wild nature. Not their size.
A real tiger, the largest cat on the planet, can’t be restructured down that far. We are already having trouble keeping them all from being critically endangered as it is, so there isn’t going to be a breeding experiment to size them down. There used to be 8 subspecies of tiger, we’re down to only 4 now.
