More work related experience is essential for those who want to become a registered veterinary technician but did not complete a two year veterinary college program

The registered veterinary technician can do a lot of the same things as a veterinarian can except diagnose, subscribe prescription medications, and perform surgery. Its the same thing as the duties that a nurse performs who works with a medical doctor. You will more than likely work in a veterinary office or clinic. Your day at work would consist of scheduling appointments, filling out medical records, or updating current patient records. You will work with animals of all kinds and sizes. You may assist in blood draws or collecting specimens and other items needed for lab testing. You also might help in surgery, taking x-rays, or pet grooming, or even giving vaccinations.

There are several jobs available for anyone who is a registered veterinary technician. While most registered veterinary technicians will work in a veterinarian’s office or animal clinic, there are also job offers in other areas. If you are interested in sciences or medical research, there are a lot of research facilities that depend on veterinary technologists to care for animals in their biomedical research facilities. The registered veterinary technician would coordinate all tasks with animals to ensure adequate care is given and keep track of all research projects for the research staff.

Pet food and pet supply companies also employ registered veterinary technicians for their Research and Development divisions. These companies are always looking for ways to improve the quality and appeal of products like cat and dog food, pet treats and pet toys. They need employees who can work with their products by testing them on animals to determine what is most appealing and also healthiest for their target animals.

To obtain a job as a registered veterinary technician you must have a two year Associate’s Degree, which you should obtain from a technical school that is approved by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). The school courses will consist of basic courses in math and business as well as more veterinary based classes such as zoology, anesthesiology, pharmacology, animal nursing, surgical principles, comparative anatomy, public health and more. You will need to do volunteer work or intership work to get hands on experience. In most instances you will perform jobs tasks under the management of a registered veterinarian while practicing the skills you’ve learned in school.

Mankind has at least always and hopefully will always care for all the animals on the planet. From the pooch on the chair to the penguin that may have suffered an oil spill in the ocean. The need for the veterinary technician continues, as every vet requires one.
 
The studies are not as intense for the veterinary technician as for a vet, but there are still some major things that need to be learned. Before even wanting to study for a vet or veterinary technician, you will have to have the passion and compassion for animals. Even though being a veterinary technician, or vet assistant as it is also called, you would need to understand that it is not about just pampering animals, it’s about caring enough, healing and treating them too.
 
Certification Is Required
 
There should be a veterinary technician school in your region, if not you would have to probably go to your closest university or college campus for tutoring. You will need to be qualified and certified to do the work expected from you. There is no easy way out of becoming a veterinary technician besides study hard, and the courses are not cheap either.
 
 
However the veterinary technician job is not the most glamorous, but it is filled with compassion and hard work. Yes there can be times of fun and games with the animals, and just observing their natural behavior can be hilarious at times, however strange the animal too. Humans and animals both have their own ways.
 
The duties of a veterinary technician are not as simple as one would assume. There are medical procedures that have to be seen to, specimens that need to be collected for testing, physical examinations, immunization, dental procedures, helping with giving birth and euthanasia’s, and of course spaying of bitches and neutering of males.
 
Routine Check-Ups
 
Being a vet or veterinary techniciandoes not mean you have no compassion for humans as you try on a daily basis to help humans help their own pets when in distress or pain, or just because it is time for that routine injection or check-up. Only the thing that your pet ever asked was a bit of food for all their unconditional love and proper attention. Is it easy to abandon or neglect your pet, and if you could do that to a pet then it is quite possible also that you could easily do it to your own child? Never get a pet for someone who is either irresponsible or does not love animals at all, it’s actually the cruelest thing you could possibly do.
